Our General Philosophy

 Jennifer Maddox, LSW, MASM

Jennifer Maddox is the newest member of the Child and Family Therapy Center at Lowry.  She brings with her many years of practice with an expertise in assessments and treatment around issues of divorce, grief, loss, and trauma in families, couples and individuals.  A licensed social worker, Jennifer received a Master’s in Social Work from University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work. In addition, she has a Master’s in Specialized Ministry and Pastoral Care from Iliff School of Theology.  This interdisciplinary training offers Jennifer the benefit of working with a client’s whole life, both practical and spiritual.

Jennifer has worked extensively with women and their concerns.  These concerns range from balancing work and family, whether in a couple or a single parent, to depression, recovery from childhood trauma and domestic violence.  In addition, Jennifer works with adolescent and young adults in order to help improve relationships with parents, other family members, and peer groups.  Some of the specific issues that Jennifer has explored with adolescent clients include poor academic performance, negative body image and/or eating disorders and bullying.  Jennifer looks at the wholeness in her clients, not the brokenness taking into account her client’s physical, mental, spiritual and social circumstances in treatment.  Together with her clients, Jennifer works to change life limiting behaviors and thought patterns in order to improve their quality of living and ease pain and suffering.

Jennifer’s experience consists of working in many diverse settings including social policy advocate work, outpatient treatment, pastoral care and in-home therapy. She also has over 15 years experience as a group facilitator.  Jennifer has run men’s and women’s support groups, dialectical behavioral therapy groups, focus groups in the work place, spiritual discernment classes, and poetry/discussion groups for girls.

Jennifer spends time each week counseling families with the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, and is available for presentations and small group discussions offering support for families struggling with the current economic climate.  She is a member of NASW, The Colorado Society for Clinical Social Work, CHADD and The American Psychotherapy Association.
